The Beat the Microbead campaign was initiated by the Plastic Soup Foundation in 2012 to bring on the map the issue of microbead pollution through personal care products.
For my last project of the year I was allowed to decide for myself what project I wanted to take on. That’s why I chose to make a poster series, because I had never done this before and I wanted to steer myself a bit in the marketing direction this time. By making it more of a whole campaign through this series of three.
I wanted to make a poster series that would make an impact on people and make them think. At that time, I myself just heard about the Bead the microbead app, so I wanted to use it as a topic, since this app is not or only rarely promoted in public.
I made the posters in the same style as the Beat the microbead app and was designed by the Plastic Soup Foundation. This is to draw more attention to the app and to spread awareness about microplastics in cosmetics, because many people do not know how many and what hazardous substances are in their cosmetic products.
When I started testing the app, I was quite surprised myself about the amount of products that contain microplastics. That’s why I have a question for you. Do you actually know what you use for your body?
